A photograph once helped someone quit smoking and another rediscover his art. That’s when I realized my photograph can do more than show what someone looks like. Sometimes it reminds them who they are
ABOUT MANUT
My name is Manutsawee “Manut” Buapet, a commercial product and brand photographer.
My journey with photography started when I was eleven years old. My KunTa, my grandfather in Thai, gave me my first film SLR camera. I didn’t know it then, but that small gift would shape my life. I became fascinated by light, details, and the way a photograph could turn a fleeting moment into something lasting.
That curiosity eventually brought me to the United States, where I studied visual arts and photography in the Design Communication Arts Program at UCLA. Living in Los Angeles surrounded me with creativity and stories from all kinds of people. It showed me that photography could do more than capture images, it could reveal something meaningful about who we are.
I later earned my Master of Fine Arts in Photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where I explored photography as a way to tell real human stories, including issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.
At one point in my career, I had a quiet but powerful realization. Some people told me that my photographs had changed them in ways I never expected. One person said a portrait I made of him helped him quit smoking. Another decided to pick up his art tools again and restart his business after seeing how he was portrayed in a photograph.
I wasn’t trying to do those things. But hearing those stories gave me an epiphany: photography can lift people up.
That realization continues to shape the way I work today.
Professionally, I’ve worked as an in-house brand photographer for Cuyana, photographing products, portraits, events, and artisan stories. That experience taught me how powerful images are for businesses. Often, a photograph is the first impression someone has of a brand.
Today through BMANUT Production, I create thoughtful, precise imagery for businesses and brands. Before every shoot, I try to understand the story behind the work, the craft, the passion, and the reason it exists.
Because the best photographs don’t just show what something looks like.
They remind people who they are and why their work matters.
Let’s create photography that captures the heart of your brand and the soul of your story.
